Early Access
- Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
- Until the game feels great! Last time we thought it would be about a year and it took about 1.5 years. So perhaps in the same 1–2 year range.
- Why are you doing Early Access?
- This game requires a lot of player feedback so we can balance content, add quality of life features, and make sure the game runs without issues. Even more content will be added throughout the Early Access period, so it will be constantly evolving. Early Access is also a chance for us to test experimental features, try exotic designs, identify niche problems, and helps us make sure the game is headed in the right direction. It worked well for StS1, so we're doing it all again for StS2!
- How long have you been working on StS2?
- Since around May 2021.
Engine & tech
- Which game engine are you using? What made you switch?
- We are using Godot. The reason we picked this one is quite a complex topic. Casey wrote a whole article on it: caseyyano.com.
Content & gameplay
- Does StS2 have co-op/multiplayer?
- Yes, StS2 has an online co-op multiplayer mode. There will be no matchmaking system—Steam friends only!
- Does StS2 have more lore?
- Yes, there's more lore and more ways to discover it, too.
- Does StS2 have new content/mechanics/etc?
- Yep, there are lots of new things. New content in the form of characters, cards, relics, potions, enemies, events, and new mechanics like enchantments, afflictions, Ancients, alternate acts, etc. And even more will be added and re-balanced throughout Early Access! If you want more context for any of these things, you should keep up with our Neowsletter.
- Ok, so now that the Defect is confirmed to be back... where's the Watcher??
- Probably sulking since almost everyone has just been asking about the Defect this whole time.
Mods & community
- Will StS2 support Steam Workshop?
- Yes!
- Will StS1 mods port easily?
- Unfortunately, no. StS2 is written in a very different engine and mildly different architecture.

- We plan on accepting beta art in the future, but not right at launch. We'll make an official announcement about how to submit beta art when the time comes, so stay posted!
